Moss (born February 13, 1977) is a former American footballer. He played for
the Minnesota Vikings (Oak Raiders), New England Patriots (New England
Patriots), Tennessee Titans (Tennessee Titans), and the San Francisco 49ers in
the National Football League. Together with Jerry Rice, he is often regarded as
the best wide receiver in history. Moss holds the NFL single-year touchdown
reception record (23 in 2007) as well as the rookie NFL single season touchdown
mark (17 in 1998). He also ranks in the top spot in the NFL all time regular
seasons touchdown receptions with 156. Moss was famous for his prowess in
securing an elusive catch and the term "mossed" is now part of the
football lexicon. Post-football, he was working for ESPN as a studio analyst
for its Sunday NFL Countdown and Monday Night Countdown programs. Moss was born
in Rand, West Virginia. He was a student at DuPont High School. It was one of
two schools which later merged into Riverside High School. There Moss excelled
in football, basketball, baseball, track, and other sports. Randy was also on
the school's debate team. Moss played a key role in leading the DuPont Panthers
football team to two consecutive state championships in 1992, 1993. Moss was a star
wide receiver. He also was a free safety, and returned punts. In 1994, he was
honoured with the Kennedy Award as the West Virginia Football Player of the
Year. Parade magazine named him to their annual All-American high school
football team in 1995. in 2009, named him one of the 50 greatest football
players in high school ever.
