Ronny Chieng

and actor. Chieng is currently a senior correspondent on The Daily Show on
Comedy Central. He also developed and is the star of the sitcom Ronny Chieng
International Student, that debuted on ABC Australia (Australia) in 2017.
Chieng was born in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, to an Malaysian Chinese family.
Chieng was raised in Singapore and the United States, living in Manchester, New
Hampshire from 1989 to 1994. Chieng appeared with Trevor Noah at a Melbourne
comedy festival in 2013. A few years later Chieng was selected to audition for
the role of correspondent on The Daily Show, which Noah hosts. In July 2016
Chieng was selected as one of 10 Comics to watch by Variety In October of that
year, Chieng appeared on The Daily Show to provide his take on Jesse Watters
Fox News segment deemed by many as racist. Chieng broadcast an expletive-laden
critique of the conservative network's segment. He also returned to New York
City's Chinatown. Watters had mocked the Chinese residents and gave respectful
interviews in Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese. The viral video received

youth, Chieng was a Singapore Sea Scout. Chieng hasn't managed to gain
citizenship or permanent residency status in Australia despite living in
Australia for 10 years. Chieng made the joke that he was an apologist for
cynophobia on the 2018 Daily Show. However Chieng later claimed that he is
"100 100% not afraid of dogs" in an interview.
